Dr. John Mott Passes Away At Florida Home.

Dr. John R. Mott, 89, evangelist and promoter of international understanding, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1946, died at his winter home in Orlando, Florida, Monday night.

Dr. and Mrs. Mott visited in Postville last August after attending a worldwide church meeting at Evanston, Illinois.

For many years he was general secretary of both the national council and the international committee of the Young Men's Christian Association. He was one of the five honorary presidents of the World Council of Churches, the only layman to hold the position.

Born in New York state, Dr. Mott spent his boyhood in Postville where his father was a lumber dealer. While a student at Upper Iowa University at Fayette, Dr. Mott helped organize the first college Y.M.C.A.

Since 1937 Dr. Mott made his home in Orlando. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. Services are being held today with later funeral rites to be held at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Mott had been recipient of many honors, the highest being the award of the Nobel Peace Prize at Oslo, Norway, on December 10, 1946. Other decorations include: China- Order of Jade; Czechoslovakia- Commander of the Order of The White Lion; Estonia- Order of the Red Cross; Finland- Commander First Class of the Order of the White Cross; France- Chevalier of the National Order of the Legion of Honor; Greece- Commander of the Order of the Savior; Hungary- Star of the Red Cross; Italy- Commander of the Order of the Crown; Japan- Imperial Order of the Sacred Treasure; Jerusalem- Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre; Poland- Commander of the Order of Polonia Restituta; Portugal- Great Commander of the Order of Christ; Siam- Officer of the Most Noble Order of the Crown; Sweden- Prince Carl Medal; United States- Distinguished Service Medal.
