Funeral services were held Sunday, 2 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home for Clinton M. Smith, 83, who passed away at Manchester on August 7. The Rev. E. Wayne Hilmer, pastor of the Methodist Church in Luana, was in charge of the rites. Burial was in the Hardin cemetery.

Clinton M. Smith, son of William W. and Alvina (DeGraw) Smith, was born near Luana on October 22, 1874, and died at Manchester on August 7, 1958 at the age of 83 years, nine months and 16 days.

He was a railway station agent for many years before retiring to an acreage at Hardin where he lived until health failed to the point where he needed care. He was married to Bertha Schultz and to this union 6 children were born.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 children; 2 grandchildren; 2 brothers and one sister. Surviving are his 3 sons, L. Bernard of Charles City, Calvin W. of Colwell, and Walter W. of Roselle Park, New Jersey; one daughter, Ila (Mrs. Frank Mensch) of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; one sister, Alda, of Waukon; and many more distant relatives and friends.
