Mary Elizabeth Meier (nee Rungen), was born in Osterkappeln, Germany, Jan. 7, 1827, and died at her home in Postville, Iowa, Feb. 21, 1905, after a short illness, aged 78 years.

She came to America in 1848 and settled in Bloomfurnace, Cyota county, Ohio. The same year she was married to Chris J. Meier, with whom she lived in holy wedlock fifty-six years. In 1850 they came to Guttenberg, in 1851 to Farmersburg, in 1866 to National and in 1888 to Postville. Their union was blessed with nine children, of whom fiive died within six weeks. She is survived by her aged husband, 4 sons, 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a brother. She was a very good, pious and loving wife and mother.

The funeral was held from the German Lutheran church Friday afternoon, Rev. E. Bockelmann officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
