Edna Mae Severn
Edna Mae Severn, 91, daughter of Charles Monroe and Ida Mae (Hellman) Clark was born May 2, 1900, near Hyannis, NB. She died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1992, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville.
Mae was born in a sod house on a farm on the plains of Nebraska and attended the schools near her home. Mae had been a milliner. She was affectionately referred to by her family as the "Old Pioneer". On March 22, 1924, she was married to Francis William "Frank" Severn at Alton, Illinois. They had four children. She and Frank operated a garage and grocery store at Centralia, IA. In 1930 they moved to Postville where Frank was employed by the Iowa Highway Commission. They retired in 1965.
She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church and the CPC Women. She was an avid quilt maker and worked with a group of women who made quilts for the church as well as for others.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 21, 1992, at 11 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville. The Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Gary, Scott, Stan, David, Anne and Mike Hemesath and Rodney and Frank Olson, Mark and Dean Severn, Judy Dean and Jeanne Wolfe.
