Fred William Wenig, 95, died Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Audubon County Memorial hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 20 at McFadden Funeral Home in Audubon with the Rev. Robert W. Wenig and the Rev. Norman Wenig officiating. Casket bearers were Harley Alt, Irvin Augspurger, Vernon Greenlee Jr., Earl Minor, James Shaw and Gordon Wenig.
He was born April 2, 1884 in Dorchester to Henry and Louisa Kumpf Wenig. He grew up there and attended local schools. He also attended the Charles City college. He married Matilda Leuhr in Dorchester Feb. 15, 1911. They farmed in Canada for a number of years then moved to North Dakota. In 1930 they moved to Dorchester. They retired in 1957 and moved to Gray. In 1974 he went to live at the Friendship home in Audubon.
He is survived by a daughter Dr. Juline Wenig of Joplin, MO, a brother Roy Wenig of New Hampton, and a sister Dorothy Greenlee of Emporia, KS. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son Carl, a daughter Irene, and brothers and sisters, Dr. Tena Wenig, Nettie Shaw, Emma Wenig, Irving Wenig and William Wenig.
