Mrs. Alex Woods, Sr., was horn on Portland Prairie, Jan. 1st, 1859, and died Thursday, Dec. 22, 1949, at the home of her daughter with whom she spent her final days. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Hartley. On March 16, 1889, she was united in marriage with the late Alex Woods and she resided in New Albin throughout her married life. Unto the newly departed, eight children were born, three of whom preceded Mrs. Woods in death, namely, Frank, James and Mrs. Essie Sheriff. Surviving the deceased are Alex, William and Harold of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; Mrs. W.B. Schoening of Spring Park, Minn.; and Mrs. Peter Hosch, of New Albin. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at two o’clock Friday afternoon at the M.E. Church with the Rev. L. King, pastor officiating. Burial was made in the New Albin Cemetery and casket bearers were Joe Kelly, E.J. Meyer, Geo. B. May, Frank Weymiller, Jr., Francis J.B. Morgan and Ignatius Imhoff.

Among those attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. William Woods, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Woods and daughters Dorothy and Annabel, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Woods and daughters Mary Loretta and Angela, all of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Mike O’Meara, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Childers, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dubeck, of La Crosse, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gordon and Mr. Wm. Sheriff of Waukon, and Mrs. W.B. Schoening, Spring Park, Minn.
