Dr. J. A. Havirland, veterinary surgeon, died at his home in Ossian, Iowa, Sunday, June 1, 1930, at 7:30 a.m., says the Ossian Bee. He had been somewhat feeble in health for some time and three weeks ago sustained injuries in a fall which was one of the causes that contributed to his death.

John Albert Havirland was born in Elgin, Kane Co., Ill., Feb. 13, 1852. He was the only child of Isaac and Sarah Van Baughenburg-Havirland. Early in life he became a veterinary surgeon which profession he followed until the close of his life.

March 18, 1890, he was united in marriage with Miss Mildred Gilson the ceremony taking place in Prairie du Chien, Wis. They were the parents of two children: John Albert, Chicago, and Roy Stephen, Omaha, Neb. Following their marriage they went to Postville and in 1904 they came to Ossian which has since been their home. Dr. Havirland is survived by his wife, two sons, John A. and Roy S., and their wives and one grandson, James Robert Havirland.

Owing to his wide acquaintance and his ability to cope with intricate problems in his profession his services were in large demand. He loved his work and always kept in touch with the present-day thought of the profession.
