Mary Catherine Carithers was born in Post township, Allamakee county, Oct 17, 1855, and died at her home in Ludlow township Nov. 16, 1927, at the age of 72 years and one month. She was one of three daughters of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Carithers, who were pioneers in this county, settling here over 75 years ago.

Mary Carithers was married April 9, 1884, to Robert Waters of Ludlow township, and ever since has resided on the farm where she died. To this union was born one son, Ray, who grew to manhood and married Miss Mabel Letchford of Frankville. Ray passed away in February of 1924. Robert Waters passed away in August of 1921.

Mary C. Waters is survived by one sister, Mrs. Jennie Marston of Postville, her other sister, Mrs. Carrie Bachtell, died six years ago. She is also survived by her son's wife.

The funeral services were held Nov. 20th at the Community church. She was laid to rest in the village cemetery beside her husband and son.
