Remains Returned from Overseas at Parents' Request

The remains of Private First Class Donald W. Lawson, who met his death on June 23, 1944, during the New Guinea coastal fighting in the World War II, arrived here this morning, accompanied by T/Sgt. Calvert and were taken to the Bakke-Hanson funeral home.

Services will be held at the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock by the Rev. A.H. Grossheim. Members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will attend the services in a body and have charge of the military honors at the grave.

In respect to Donald Lawson, all stores are asked to close during the hours of his funeral on Thursday. The military funeral will be held between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Donald W. Lawson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Lawson, was born near Waukon on Oct. 2, 1920. He spent his childhood here. On Feb. 19, 1941, at the age of 21, he enlisted in the U.S. army, and was sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo., for training. Later he was sent overseas and on June 23, 1944 was killed in action in New Guinea.

Besides his parents he is survived by a brother, Roland, at home and two sisters, Mrs. Hallis Moose and Mrs. Hartley Enyart of this vicinity.

All veterans are urged to asemble at the Veteran's Home at 1:00 p.m. and attend the services at the Bakke-Hanson Funeral home at 1:30 p.m. and at the First Presbyterian church at 2:00 p.m.
