Charlotte Cordelia Folsom, daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Folsom, was born in Versailes, Indiana, 2 Feb. 1842, and passed away Saturday, 26 Dec. 1914, aged 72 years, 10 months and 24 days.
She was married to James Sams on 1 Feb. 1860, near Versailes, IN, and came to Iowa in the fall of 1865, settling in Winneshiek county. In Oct. 1884 they moved on the farm northwest of Postville where they have since resided. Mr. and Mrs. Sams celebrated their Golden Wedding 1 Feb. 1910.
To them were born five children, Julia Agnes and Vina May having passed away in 1877, and Mrs. W. D. Standorf of near West Union, Richard and Stella who reside at the home place surviving.
Mrs. Sams was a faithful wife and devoted mother. She joined the Baptist church when 18 years old and during her long and lingering illness she remained faithful to her religion. All that loving hands and medical aid were done but on Saturday last the Angel of Death relieved her.
Besides her aged husband and three children she is survived by one brother, Thomas Folsom of Postville, and three sisters - Mrs. S. A. Padden of Camp Crook, S.D.; Mrs. Sarah Simpson of Postville, and Mrs. Rachel Birdsill of Frankville.
The funeral was held from the Congregational church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. J. F. Childress officiating. Interment in Postville cemetery.
