Services Held For Mrs. E. Barnes

Mrs. Florence (Harris) Barnes, the daughter of James W. and Caroline Harris, was born near Postville on December 21, 1902. She was originally a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Postville, and later through adult instruction became a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont.

She was in fair health until May 2 when she became seriously ill and was taken to the University Hospital, at Iowa City. She passed away on July 29, 1961 at the age of 58 years, 7 months, 8 days.

Mrs. Barnes was married to Edward Barnes on September 26, 1923. To this union were born 5 children, 3 sons, one dying in infancy and Edward, Jr. at an early age, and John; and 2 daughters: Iva Jean and Gladys. The couple made their home in Postville until 1929 at which time they moved to Clermont. After spending several years in this area they moved to Clinton. A few years later they returned to Clermont, where they resided until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 sons. She is survived by her husband, Edward Barnes, who is ill and received care at Veterans' Memorial Hospital in Iowa City, 2 daughters, Iva Jean (Frank) King of Center Point, Gladys (Charles) Gilcrest of Walker; one son, John of Clinton; 5 sisters: Mrs. Mae Evans of Waukon, Mrs. Lester Smith of Postville, Mrs. Fred Lawson of Postville, Mrs. Ethel Fast of Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Ernest Johnson of Rushford, Minnesota; and 3 brothers: Martin Harris of Postville, Obert Harris of Postville, Fred Harris of Froelich, and 9 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the West Clermont Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 1961 with the Rev. Justin L. Silvius of Postville officiating. Burial was in Postville Cemetery.
