Ludlow Young Man Kills Himself.

News reached Waukon Sunday of a gruesome find which had been made that morning on the farm of the Simon Nagle Est., in Ludlow township, about six miles southwest of Waukon. The farm is occupied by two brothers and two sisters, the parents being dead. The younger brother, Benjamin Herman, 27 years old, had been missing since the Wednesday morning previous. The others thought he was at a neighbor's and when they were informed that he was not, parties started out looking for him. The body was found in a cornfield near the house with the throat cut from ear to ear. The razor with which the deed was commited lay about fifteen feet from the body as though he had thrown it falling.

In the absence of coroner Heucker, justice S. R. Thompson held an inquest, with Otto Martin, Wm. Nolte and Henry Pausch as jurors. No evidence was given as to the cause of the rash act. The verdict was that he came to his death by his own hands. The body, which was in a terrible state, was buried at once in the cemetery near by.-- Waukon Journal.

I believe that Benjamin Herman is Benjamin Herman Nagel aka Bengeman. He is buried in Bethlehem cemetery. He was a brother to Simon Nagel who is mentioned in the obit. Have some conflict as to who his parents were but think they were Simon & Louise Fiet Nagel. Thank You

Ben Nagel, 27, Fearing Call to Service, Ends Own Life

Waukon, Ia., Aug 12 - Despondent because, it is believed, he was to be included in the next draft contingent leaving Allamakee county, Ben Nagel, 27 years old, and well known in this vicinity, committed suicide by slashing his throat with a razor.

His body was discovered Sunday in a corn field, near here. A razor, which it is believed, he used to take his life, was found nearby.

Nagel had been missing from his home since last Wednesday and searchers were busy since that time in an effort to locate him. He is said to have expressed unwillingness to go to a training camp.
