Postville Review, 4 Aug. 1916. Sightly condensed do to the image not being whole.
Edward Waters was born in Ludlow township, Allamakee county, Iowa, December 18, 1865, and died July 28, 1916, aged 50 years, 7 months and 10 days.
He was the son of George and Sophia Waters, who were among the pioneer settlers of Allamakee county. Edward remained on the homestead until 1890, when he removed to Postville, and on the 14th day of July, 1902, was united in marriage with Anna Redhead. Two children were born to this union, one who died in infancy, and Howard, who preceded his father in death but seven months.
The deceased was of a family of eleven children. Five brothers are buried in Frankville, and one sister deceased in Pennsylvania before the families removal to Iowa. There are left and present at these sad rites the four brothers living - Robert, George, John and Thomas, all of this vicinity.
Mr. Waters marked characteristics were his home instincts, a genial personality and the enthusiasm he found in dealing with his neighbors, in live stock and the business of buying and selling generally.
He was of that old fashioned stock that saw more in homely virtues of life. Home to him was the citadel of life and he fortified it with kindness, sunshine and plenty.
He never sought office or political preferment and his was a business life that found place in the activities of the community and in which place he will sorely be missed.
The funeral was held from the home Monday afternoon and was one of the largest ever held here, many coming from outside towns and remote localities to pay their last respects to the memory of Mr. Waters. Rev. J. F. Childress, pastor of the Congregational church, conducted the service. Interment in Postville cemetery.

While Mr. and Mrs. Ed Waters were on their way to the Frank Sebastian farm west of town last Friday afternoon, where Mr. Waters wanted to buy a horse, their car was struck by a Milwaukee engine at the Henry Kahle crossing. Mr. Waters was killed instantly and Mrs. Waters was critically injured and is now in the Postville Hospital. Mr. Waters was 50 years old and was born in Ludlow township, having spent his entire lifetime in this community.
