Andrew Schuler Passes Saturday. First of Famous Ball Team to Pass Away.

Saturday afternoon last word was passed around that Andrew J. Schuler had passed away at his home in this city, his demise following a brief illness with which he had been stricken the evening of Thanksgiving Day.

Andrew J. Schuler, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Schuler, was born in Grand Meadow township, Clayton county, Iowa, Nov. 30, 1870. His early education was attained in the rural schoools of that area, after which he located at Monona, where he lived for several years.

On Jan. 9, 1899, he was married to Miss Mae Trudo at Waukon, and they immediately took up their residence in Postville. To this union three children were born, Lloyd, Edward and Agnes.

Beside his wife and mentioned children he is survived by one brother, Ray, and a sister, Miss Christena ( also later spelled Christina) Schuler, both of Cedar Rapids.

During his many years residence in this locality he was engaged in the real estate and insurance buisness.

In his earlier years he was much interested in athletics and especially baseball, in which he achieved notable success as a pitcher for the Monona Widcats and after coming to Postville as a original member of the Famous First baseball team, one of the fastest and best semi-pro teams ever in this section of Iowa. He is the first of that team to pass on, and was borne to his last resting place by several of his team mates from that time.

The funeral service was held Tuesday at St. Bridget's Catholic church in this city, Rev. Father Hogan conducting, after which interment was made in Postville cemetery.

Mentioned in those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Wyman Trudo, of West Union, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schuler and Miss Christina Schuler, of Cedar Rapids.
