Postville Review, Fri., 9 Apr. 1915.

John Starkey was born May 15, 1829, at Barrow-on-the-Humber-river, in Lincolnshire, England. He had three sisters and one brother, all of whom passed away before him. He died at his home near Postville Junction, Iowa, April 4, 1915.

When a young man in England he worked on a farm. On the second day of February, 1852, he started to America and after a voyage of two months he landed in New york, from there he went to Buffalo and thence to Ohio, where he remained for three years. He then started west, coming via Chicago to Galena, which was then the western terminus of the railroad. From Galena he walked to Clermont, Iowa, arriving there in June 1855. He lived in Clermont until he settled on his farm March 14, 1864.

Mr. Starkey was married to Miss Lorinda Savage, June 2, 1858. Eight children blessed this union, four sons and four daughters. Mrs. Starkey, two sons and one daughter preceded him into the spirit world; two sons, three daughters and two grandchildren remain to mourn the decease of a kind and loving father.

John Starkey joined the Congregational church at Postville in March 1880. He was always loyal to his Lord and Master, and was glad when the summons come to go and be with his Savior and loved ones in paradise.

Funeral services were conducted in the home on April 6th by Rev. J. F. Childress and the body was laid to rest in Postville cemetery.

In this connection the family wish to thank their friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy during the illness and death of their father.
