Robert M. Dickson was born at Huggin Field, Scotland, September 26, 1842. Died in Independence, Iowa, Wednesday evening, April 6, 1921, at the home of his niece, Mrs. Florence Tidball.
When he was 11 years old he came from his native land to America with his parents. They lived for three years at New York City, moving to three miles from Monona, Iowa, in 1858. One year later they moved to a farm near Hardin, Iowa, where Robert resided until his retirement in 1912. That year he moved to California, spending the next four years living at the home of a sister-in-law, Myra Dickson, and her daughter, now Mrs. Dr. Charles Tidball, in Oakland and Los Angeles. After the death of Mrs. Dickson he lived with a nephew, Charles Dickson, later going to the home of his niece, Mrs. Dr. Charles Tidball, who had in the meantime moved to Independence, Iowa.
Having no family of his own, he was exceedingly fond of his nieces and nephews.
He was an industrious, successful farmer. Early in his life he joined the Methodist Episcopalian church of the North Grove circuit, the schoolhouse where the services were held being located on the home farm. His sister-in-law, Mrs. Myra Dickson, had a talent for organizing and conducting religeous work, and the family was for years the leaders in maintaining the church intrest. Robert making no small contribution of time, money and influence in this noble christian service.
He leaves to mourn his loss two brothers, five nieces and six nephews. His brothers: William, of California; David, of Waukon. His nieces: Mary M. Woods, of Tama; Neely and Grace Dickson, of Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs. Louise Dryer, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Dr. Charles Tidball, Independence. His nephews are Millard Dickson, of Oakland; Dave and Frank Bloxham, of Postville; Robert Collins, of Luana; Robert and Archie Dickson, of Waukon.
The services were held at the M.E. church in Postville. Interment in the Hardin cemetery.
