William Jeremiah Bellows was born May 18, 1830, at Lysander, N.Y. His family removed to Cass county, Mich., when he was quite young, where he grew to manhood. At the age of 28 he united in marriage to Polly S. Joy of the same place. To this union were born two children, Loren A. and George W. Bellows. In 1864 he removed from Michigan to Iowa and settled on a farm near Harfin, Clayton county, where he resided until his two sons were grown to manhood, after which he and his wife were separated. He then went west and took a homestead near Woonsocket, South Dakota. In 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Nettie Harrington of Prairie du Chien, Wis., taking her to his homestead. To this union two children were born, William Guy and Nellie Florence Bellows. His children all survive him with the exception of George W. Bellows, of Monona, who died Oct. 18, 1910.

He has led a very active and industrious life, and in his later years he accepted the Advent faith for his choice and had lived as near to it as was possible for him to do. In the last moments he said he was prepared and ready. Deceased was 81 years, four months and 16 days old.

He was injured in an automobile accident Sept. 28th, in Mitchell, S.D., where he had gone to attend the Corn Palace. The injury was not considered dangerous at all, and he seemed to be doing well up to an hour before his death, which occured at 5 o'clock a.m. Sept. 29th at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He has made his home in later years at Woonsocket with his son Guy Bellows. His last request was to be buried at Postville by the side of his first wife. The remains reached Postville Friday accompanied by his son Guy.

The funeral was held from the home of his son, Loren A. Bellows, in this city, at two o'clock p.m., Saturday, Sept. 30th, conducted by Rev. C. C. Casper. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
