Postville Review, 7 July 1911.
Joseph Riley was born in Juda, Wis., April 27, 1845, and died at his home in Rockford, Iowa, June 29, 1911, in his 67th year.
With his parents he came to Iowa at twelve years of age, lived at McGregor three years and at Hardin several years. He and Emily Walker were united in marriage on November 1, 1866. They made their home in Postville until the last few years, which were spent in Rockford with their unmarried daughter. To Mr. and Mrs. Riley were born four children, of which one son and two daughters survive their father. Mr. Riley was in frail health for some years, suffering three strokes of paralysis. When he realized that the great change drew nigh he prepared for the beyond and expressed a longing to meet loved ones in the eternal world.
The remains were brought to Postville Saturday last and at 3:30 on Sunday afternoon, July 2nd, the funeral was held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. S. Burdick, Rev. J. F. Childress conducting the service at the home, the services at the cemetery being under the auspices of Oak Camp M. W. A. which attended in a body, and of which the deceased had long been a valued member.
The sympathy of all is with the bereaved wife and children.
In this connection the family wish to thank the friends and Woodmen for their kindly assistance in the burial of their loved husband and father.
