Postville Review, 7 July 1911.
Charles Arthur Hardwick, son of John and Mary Hardwick, both deceased, was born on a farm in Jones county, Iowa, in 1870, and died at Rochester, Minn., June 30, 1911, aged 40 years, 11 months and 21 days.
He married Ella Alward of this city Dec. 31, 1891. To them was born one son, Gordon, who with his mother survives him. He and his family lived in Postville until fifteen years ago when they moved to Fort Dodge, which has since been their home. Mr. Hardwick has spent most of his time and interests traveling for a wholesale candy house. He was a member of the Christian Traveling Men's Association of Gideons, also of the Christian church of Fort Dodge.
The news of his death came to Postville people like a thunderbolt from a clear sky, as Mr. Hardwick was here last Christmas time as near a picture of perfect health as is usually found. He was a very capable business man and during his several years residence here won his way into the confidence and esteem of those with whom he came in contact by his genial and manly ways. He was a clean, christian man, and while the family and friends cannot but grieve that he is no more, there is a comforting thought in the assurance that he was prepared for the change when the summons came.
The funeral service was held from the Methodist church on Monday, July 3rd, conducted by Rev. C. C. Casper. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
