Postville Herald, Thur., 23 August 1923.

Jacob Meyer was born in Altdorf, Wurtemberg, Germany, January 22, 1842, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Brockmeyer, north of Postville, Iowa, Tuesday afternoon, August 14, 1923, aged 81 years six months and 22 days.

He immigrated to the United States in 1866, locating first at Elkader and two years later came to Postville, where he engaged in the blacksmith business with R. F. Hecker, which partnership continued for a number of years and following the dissolution of this partnership he engaged in the same for himself.

Jacob Meyer was an honest, industrious man, a good citizen, neighbor and friend, and a man of good judgment. He was a member of the Postville city council for sixteen years and during all that time looked after the city's interests with the same fidelity that he did his own.

He was united in marriage Dec. 26, 1869, with Elizabeth Moetsch, who preceded him in death three years ago. To this union nine children were born, all but one of whom passed away in early youth.

He was also a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in this city, of which congregation he was secretary for many years, and his death marks the passing of the last one of the original founders of the congregation here.

Eight years ago Mr. Meyer and his wife, wearied with years of toil went at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Wm. Brockmeyer, where they were cared for until called to their eternal homes.

He leaves to mourn his loss his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Brockmeyer, and family; one half brother, Geo. Barreiss of Postville; two half brothers and a half sister in Germany; and one grandson.

The funeral was held last Friday afternoon from St. Paul's Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. E. Schmidt. Interment in Postville cemetery.
