Arnold Henry Backhaus
Funeral services for Arnold Backhaus were held Tuesday, April 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Arnold Henry Backhaus, son of John and Minnie (Dahms) Backhaus, was born July 16, 1900 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He died April 18 at the Allamakee County Care Facility at Waukon, Iowa.
He was baptized August 19, 1900 and confirmed April 5, 1914 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. On December 12, 1929 he was married to Hazel Leubka. They farmed for 20 years near Luana. In 1951 they moved to Postville where they have lived since then.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Mrs. Henry (Florence) Christofferson and Mrs. Louis (Viola) Miller, 2 half-brothers, Albert Backhaus and Verni Engle.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel, a sister, Marie Schutte, of Postville and a half-sister, Mrs. Alvin (Amanda) Johanningmeier of Waukon.
