Anna Maria Dorothea Eliza Schmidt (nee Pfennigschmidt) was born September 5, 1843, at Heidorf, Mecklenburg, Germany, and died at Postville hospital, Saturday afternoon, Nov. 12, 1921, aged 78 years, two months and seven days.

In June 1869, she came to America and on June 16, 1871, she was united in marriage to John Jacob L. Schmidt at Leighton, Pa., he having died in 1904.

Mrs. Schmidt was well known in this locality, having for many years resided just south of Postville. Her later years have been beset by severe physical afflictions and death came to her as a sweet release from pain. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and of the Ladies Aid society.

The only surviving relatives in this section is Carl Madaus.

The funeral was held from the Lutheran church Monday afternoon, Rev. E. Schmidt officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
