Last Rites For Elsie Thompson

Funeral services for Elsie (Brainard) Thompson, 65 were held Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1980 at 1 p.m. at Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Rev. Victor Baderschneider officiated. Burial was in the Minert Cemetery, Postville. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Elsie Sophia Thompson, daughter of George and Theresa (Peterson) Schave, was born Nov. 1, 1914 near Clermont, Iowa. She died Oct. 12, 1980 at Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis.

She was baptized Jan. 24, 1915 at the Evangelical Lutheran Zion Church and confirmed at the West Clermont Lutheran Church May 6, 1928.

Nov. 27, 1935 she was united in marriage to Elmer Louis Brainard. He died Dec. 9, 1964. She was a cook at nursing homes, hospitals, children's homes and restaurants.

Nov. 22, 1969 she was married to Tilmer Thompson. They lived at West Union. The last year of her life was spent as a resident of the Prairie Convalescent Center in Prairie du Chien, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Elmer. Surviving are her husband, Tilmer of West Union; a son, Kenneth Brainard of Freeport, Illinois; 2 daughters, Mrs. LaVern (Lorraine) Ayers of Marquette, Iowa; and Mrs. Burt (Kay) Mullenix of Denver, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Harold (Bernice) McIntosh and Mrs. Howard (Lavanda) Hanson both of Decorah, and Vivian Dietrich of Titonka, Iowa.

Submitter notes: Elsie's first husband Elmer Louis Brainard was the son of Reuben Joel John and Minnie Louise (Schroeder) Brainard. They lived in Allamakee County, Iowa.
