Postville Herald, Postville, Iowa, Thursday, March 1, 1934.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.Mary Krei, the subject of this sketch, was born in Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany, December 5, 1844, of hardy German ancestry, and came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krei, in 1870, settling first on a farm near Garnavillo, Iowa.
June 25, 1872, she was united in marriage at Garnavillo with Paul Willman, and to this union were born nine children, of whom the following five survive: Mrs. Bert E. Tuttle, William and Rudolph of Postville; Mrs. J. J. Klein of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Edith Evans of St. Paul, Minn.
Later the family occupied farms in the vicinity of Postville until the spring of 1899, when advancing years and enfeebled health caused them to retire from active agricultural pursuits and purchase a home in Postville., where the husband and father passed away in 1907.
The children having all married and established homes of their own, the mother continued to live alone and to cultivate her garden with wonderous skill and care until about 12 years ago when the frailties incident to age began to creep upon her and she with great reluctance was compelled to relinquish her household duties. Since then she has divided her time living with her daughters, Mrs. Klein and Mrs. Tuttle, who have faithfully ministered to her comfort until the journey's end, which came on Saturday, February 24, at the latter home after a few weeks illness, when the spirit of a loved and loving mother, wearied with the weight of 89 years, two months and 19 days, peacefully took its flight and returned to God who gave it.
The funeral was held from the home at 2:30 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. R. F. Galloway officiating, and interment was made in the Postville cemetery.
In this connection the family wish to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the many dear friends for their manifest favors and kindnesses and for their expressions of sympathy during the illness and burial of their beloved mother.
