Postville Herald, Postville, Iowa, Friday, May 07, 1920.

A message to Mr. and Mrs. John H. Meier of this city last Sunday conveyed to them the sad and unexpected tidings that their son, Arthur C. Meier, had passed away at two 0'clock that morning at the hospital in Rockford, Iowa, following an operation for appendicitus and other complications submitted to the monday previous, and from which he was suppose to be progressing toward recovery.

Arthur C. Meier was born in Post township, Allamakee county, Iowa, June 2, 1894, and died as above stated on Sunday, May 2, 1920, aged 35 years and 11 months.

He came to Postville with his parents in 1893. He graduated from the Postville high school with the class of 1902, following which he attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette for two years, after which he became associated with his father in the clothing business, which continued until his father sold out and retired from trade. Later he officiated under Deputy Auditor Kolsrud, but this line of work not appealing to him he took up banking, being first employed in a bank in Aurelia for a time, then went to a bank at Rudd, and from there to Rockford, where for nearly four years past he has been cashier of the Rockford State Bank.

He was married May 8, 1912, to Miss Lois Kleeberger of Aurelia, who with a daughter aged six years and a son aged four years survive him.

Arthur C. Meier was as clean-cut, straightforward and manly a young man as Postville ever produced; he was an intelligent, industrious man, social by nature and made friends wherever he went, and with friends innumerable we regret to learn of his demise in manhood's early morn.

Of his immediate family he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Meier of this city; a sister, Mrs. Alma Foote of Iowa City; and two brothers, Delbert W. Meier of Monona, and Milo Meier of Mason City.

Funeral services were held from the home in Rockford at four p.m. Monday, following which the remains were shipped to Aurelia, the former home of Mrs. Meier, where on Tuesday after a brief service the body was laid to rest.

The floral offerings were unusually profuse and beautiful, testifying as nothing else could have done to the large place he held in the hearts of those among whom he lived and who knew him best.

Those who were in attendance at the funeral from Postville were Mr. and Mrs. John H. Meier, C.W. Meier, Miss Irene Meier, George J. Meier, A.L. Meier and Mrs. A.J. Phillips.

Note: Changing his birth year to 1884 seems to correct the error in dates presented in the obituary. This is exactly as was in the obituary.

Submitter is not related.
