Postville Herald, Postville, Iowa, Thursday, February 16, 1922.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.On the first day of October, 1848, in distant Norway, in Eidavold, near Christiana, Hans Christofferson first saw the light of day. As a young man 23 years old he left the land of his fathers for the land of promise, arriving at Postville , June 1, 1848.
On December 26, 1877, he was married to Caroline Amelia Holter who, however, was taken from his side in 1891.
For many years Mr. Christofferson was associated with the churches of this vicinity. As his health and circumstances permitted he was a faithful attendant at the church services and the Men's Bible class.
Four children are left to mourn his loss, namely: Reuben Christofferson and Albert Christofferson of Castalia; Mrs. Blake Rathbun and Herman Christofferson of Postville. During the last ten years he has made his home with his daughter , Mrs. Rathbun.
The summons came suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, February 11, 1922, thus closing an earthly life of 73 years, four months and 10 days. Mr. Christofferson also had three brothers, one of whom, Walter, is now living near Postville.
Mr. Christofferson was known to all as an honest, upright, industrious man and a good citizen, neighbor and friend. He came to this country with little more than a brave heart and a strong constitution, but by hard work and thrift he wrested a competence from the soil, farming being his life's occupation.
The funeral was held from the Postville Community church at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. A. Saathoff, and the Masonic fraternity, of which brotherhood he had been an honored member for many years, Bro. Leon DeNoyclles of Cresco officiating for Brotherly Love Lodge No. 204, A.F. & A.M. of this city. Interment was made in Postville cemetery by the side of his wife.
In this connection the family is desirous of extending their heartfelt thanks to the many neighbors and friends for their many acts of kindness and expressions of sympathy after the death and during the burial of their beloved father.
