Waukon Boy Killed By Auto.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

Leslie Walsh, thirteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walsh of this city, was so badly injured by being run over by an automobile about six o'clock Friday evening that death occurred between 12 and 1 that night says the Waukon Journal.

The fatal accident took place on the Rossville road, a block south of the railroad crossing at the foot of the street leading west. The car was a Buick, driven by Ben Davis, and with him were his wife and daughter and Alvin Elmore. They had come to town to participate in the doings for the benefit of the starving children of Europe, and the car had just started to turn west going up the hill to the Calvin home when the boy, who was sliding on the sidewalk on a handsled crashed into it. The walk is bordered on the south by a high bank which prevented the boy from seeing the car, or the driver from seeing the boy. The car was stopped immediately, only the front wheel passing over the boy. Jas. Healy, who lives on the corner, the old Pat Delacey place, saw the accident and was on the spot at once, even before the occupants of the car could get out. He drew the body out from under the car and realized at once that the boy was frightfully injured.

He was taken to the family home near by and a physician summoned. The head was badly crushed, probably from striking the bumper of the car, and the left limb fractured in two places. He never regained consciousness and breathed his last at 12:40.

Although no blame can possibly attach to the driver of the car, Mr. Davis, he naturally feels all broken up over the terrible happening.

Note: A second article in the Postville Herald, same date and page, offers no further genealologic information except to note that Ben Davis was not charged and...

"Mr. and Mrs. Walsh are having more than their share of trouble these days losing two little boys from measles, both being buried the same day."

Submitter is not related.
