Mrs. John D. Burhans died April 12, 1926, Age 66 years, 11 days.

Edith Small Burhans was born April 01, 1860, in Wabasha Co., Minnesota, and lived there with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Small, until after her father's return from service in the Civil War. In 1872 at the age of 12 her parents moved to Lamberton, Minnesota, and were pioneer settlers in that vicinity.

She was united in marriage to John D. Burhans of Postville, Iowa, on December 01, 1880, and to them were born four children, Ethel, John H., Wm. C., and one son, Glen, who died in infancy.

Of a family of 10 children she was preceded in death by four brothers, Delmar, George, Herbert and Bertram, one sister, Mrs. Dora Turner, and her parents. The survivors, besides her husband and three children, eight grandchildren, are three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Pliny Perry, Mrs. Alma Gooler of Lamberton, Minnesota, Mrs. C. J. Leth, of Selma, California, and Alvin Small of Triant, California.

Death followed an illness of several months duration, passed in suffering but borne with christian fortitude, in which she exemplified the virtues of patience, gratitude, and love toward all men.

Funeral held at the home of her son, John H. Rev. Young of Iron River officiating.

Mrs. Burhans was loved by all and will be sadly missed by her many friends.

The deceased was formerly a resident of Castalia and will be remembered by many of the older people.
