Hilma Cornelia Christianson
Hilma C. Christianson, 93, of Waukon, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000 at her home in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in Waterville, Iowa, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Hilma Cornelia Christianson was born July 30, 1906 on the rural Waukon farm of her parents, Hans and Hulda (Anderson) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church. She attended the rural Allamakee County "Fan School" and Community College in Decorah, Iowa. Following school she lived for a short time in Minnesota. On March 28, 1928 she married Andrew Christianson. Hilma worked in the dietary departments of Veterans Memorial Hospital and Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. She was a member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church where she was very active in Circle, Ladies Aid and making mission quilts. She was also a volunteer at TASC in Waukon. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Hilma is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Andrew, 3 brothers, Morris, Clifton "Telford", and Olvin Larson, 3 sisters-in-law, Clara, Alphia and Alice Larson, an infant brother and sister, and 3 grandchildren, Victor Christianson, David Herman and Phyllis Bechtel.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Anaruth (Karl) Bechtel and Margaret (Alton) Herman, both of Waukon and Ione (Norman) Rema of Waterville and Vivian (David) Benjegerdes of Postville; 5 sons, Hilmen (Lillian), Clifton (Charlotte) and Virgil, all of Waukon, Carmen (Marge) of Preston, MN and Norman (Gayle) of Vallejo, CA; 28 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 4 step- great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Rudolph Larson and Lester (Gladys) Larson, both of Waukon; 3 sisters-in-law, Iona Larson of Homer, MN and Arkley and Lillian Larson, both of Waukon.
Honorary casket bearers were John and Mary Herman, Tammy Belverud and Freda Grimstad. Casket bearers were Richard, Gary, Tracy and Jaron Christianson, Herbert Bechtel, James Rema, Dennis Herman and Greg Benjegerdes.
