Son of Judge Taylor Drowns Sunday in Yellow River
The people of Postville were sorely grieved on Sunday evening last when word was received here that a son of Judge H.E. Taylor of Waukon had been drowned at Forest Mills while in swimming with other lads. We take the following account of the sorry accident from the Waukon Journal:"A pall of gloom was cast over this community about five o'clock Sunday afternoon when word reached town that Phillip Taylor had been drowned in the Yellow River just below the Forest Millls dam. The family had gone to Decorah for the day, having a picnic dinner in the park. When they reached home at about four o'clock Phillip wanted to go swimming, so his father, Judge Taylor, went with him and three other boys, Price Montgomery, Robert Kaveny and Charles Clark, down to the swimming hole at Forest Mills. It is probable that he was taken with a cramp for the water was very cold. When his father saw that he was in trouble he went in after him but could not reach him before he went down for the last time. He sent for help immediately and a crowd soon gathered. The men worked desperately but it was after eight o'clock before they recovered the body. They had sent to Decorah for a pulmotor, but it was of no use, as the doctors found that there was no water in the lungs.
Phillip M. Taylor was the youngest son of Judge and Mrs. H.E. Taylor. He was born in Waukon, April 7, 1911, and would have entered the Senior Class in High School this fall. He was universally liked; an ambitious, industrious boy with every prospect for a bright future. He was a member of the Methodist church and a faithful Boy Scout.
He is survived by his parents, Judge and Mrs. H.E. Taylor,m two brothers, Herbert and James, and three sisters, Betty, Jane and Anne, all of whom are home except James, who is in Daina, Floria. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in their time of great sorrow."
Postville relatives, the Luhman and Sanders families, inform us that the funeral hour has been set for Saturday of this week, at 10 o'clock at the home and at 10:30 from the Methodist church in Waukon.
