Our people here were grieved Wednesday morning on hearing that Mrs. Jonas Johnson had died at her home Tuesday, April 2d, at 8:00 o'clock p.m. Although her death was expected, it was sudden at the last and a great shock to the family as death always is in whatever form it comes. Shortly before she died she called her daughter, Mrs. Ida Olander, into her room and requested her to sing that beautiful hymn, “Think of the Home Over There.” She then asked for the other members of the family, bade them adieu and passed away. Like one going to slumber her spirit took flight to the life beyond where sorrow is unknown. During her illness she received all the attention that loving hearts and hands could administer. Not only will she be missed in the family circle but by the entire community where she has lived so many years.
Deceased was born in Norbyos County, Sweden July 9th, 1833 and died April 2d, 1901. Her maiden name was Cnristene Olson, came to this country in 1854 and was married to Jonas Johnson in 1856. She became a member of the Baptist church in 1862 and was baptized by Rev. Swedberg. Three children, Mrs. Olander of this place, Christene at home, E.P. of Grand Forks, N.D., and an aged husband are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother and affectionate wife. One son, Ferdinand preceded her several years ago. A sister, Mrs. J.A. Peterson, and three brothers, Messrs. A.G. and L.E. Olson, of this place and P.A. Earl of Minneapolis have lost a kind sister. Funeral services Sunday, 7th, conducted by Rev. Lindblom, who gave a very eloquent sermon in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends. Capt. Bascom drove the hearse with a four horse team, accompanied by undertaker, Wm. Saam. The casket was tastefully draped with floral offerings, some of the wreaths were beautiful, particularly the one with the word, Mother, in large letters. It was so appropriate and full of sympathy, which contained the last vestige of dear Mrs. Johnson to the cemetery where consigned to the tomb.(sic) The pall bearers were Messrs. Rev. Swedberg, C.J. Ericson, O.G. Anderson, M.T. Ahlstrom, Mr. Almquist, O.N. Amondson
Those from abroad in attendance at the funeral were E.P. Johnson, Grand Forks, N.D., Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Earl from Minneapolis, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Earl, St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Fred. Thompson, New Albin.
The family desire to thank all friends for assistance rendered in their time of need.
But she is gone, no more we'll hear

She has left this world of care,
For a better one above.

She has gone to join her kindred dead
In realms of endless day.
