WILLIAM C. MACBAY
On Wednesday at 10 a.m., occurred the funeral of Mr. Wm. C. MacBay, who on Sunday at about the supper hour passed quietly to rest. We believe he had uttered no complaint of illness, but went to sleep and was found dead at the hour named by a son of Mrs. Melvin, who has for some months been looking after the home of deceased.
Deceased came to Lansing about 47 years ago from St. Louis, where he was married to Maretta Blackburn, who died Aug. 17th of last year. Mr. MacBay was born in Scotland and was about 85 years old. He engaged in merchandising in a building located on the present site of the MIRROR office, and afterwards engaged in the boot and shoe trade. For ten or a dozen years he had not been engaged in any business. He was the last of the family of sisters and brothers, as was his wife of her family. After so many years residence here, it was but natural that his oft-expressed wish was to be allowed to remain in Lansing and when the end came that he be buried here. After the death of his wife and friends saw the infirmities of old age with which he had to contend, an effort was made to have him go to relatives and spend the last days, but to this he would not consent.
Miss Mary Whyte, a niece, and sister of Miss Belle Whyte who was better known here, came up from St. Louis on Tuesday to attend the funeral which was held Wednesday morning, Rev. Stinson of the M.E. church conducting the services at the grave, and interment being at Oak Hill.
