Death of Aged Mrs. Renne
The reaper has gleaned among the sheaves once more and culled for the Master's use the ripened grain in the person of Mrs. Diantha Renne.

Mrs. Renne was born in Essex County, New York, in 1817, dying at Village Creek, Iowa, August 7th, 1901, aged 84 years. She was married to Gilbert Renne of Essex Co., N.Y., and in 1857 came to Milton, now known as Village Creek.

Nine children were born to them, two of them are living, George of Kansas City, Mo., and Charles of Dolan, S.D. In [illegible year] her husband died since which time she has lived here alone. On the 28th of July she had a slight shock of paralysis from the extreme heat that day and this with old age probably caused her death. She seemed to recover for a few days but on the 4th was taken worse; from that time it was apparent to all that the time when she should be “called home” was not far off. For three days she hovered between life and death and Wednesday morning at 11:30 she dropped into “That sleep that knows no waking.”

Mrs. Renne made profession of religion when young joining the M. E. church of which she remained a member to her death. Of late years she has attended church but little as she got quite feeble and hard of hearing. the neighbors were very kind in caring for her all through her last illness, she being aged and alone and a kind loquacious old lady.

The funeral occurred Sunday P.M., the 11th at 2:30 o’clock at the cemetery in the open air. Rev. Stinson of Lansing preached an appropriate sermon well chosen for the occasion and the choir of the M.E. church sang a few appropriate selections.

There were six honorary pall bearers, Messers. J.P. Jackson, W. Conkey, Joseph Appel, Jas. Cavers, P. Lang, and R. Kean, and six young men pallbearers, H. Hansen, W. Cavers, L. Drake, Geo. Cavers, Con. Spinner and H. Jacobson who laid the remains of the dear old lady beside her husband and other loved ones who preceded her many years to the better home beyond.

“May we go with serenity to that bower soothed and sustained by an unfaltering trust. May we approach our grave as one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams.”

Lansing Mirror, Aug. 16, 1901 P 1 C 3
