Death came to the release of Scott Jones, 76, well known Waukon resident, Monday night after several months illness, due to an incurable disease of the throat.
Melvin Scott Jones, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Elam Jones, early residents if Union Prairie township, where he was born Jan 30, 1863 and grew to manhood.
On Nov 7, 1900, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary A Young of Waukon. Three children were born to this union, Linton, deceased, and John F .and Mrs. James Stanton, both residing in Chicago, who with their mother are left to mourn. Also four sisters and a brother, namely Mrs. Sarah Forkey , Keyport Wash, Mrs. Ida Arnold , Kuroki, Sask , Canada, B.F. Jones, Strathmore Alberta Canada, Mrs. Amanda McConaty , Decorah and Mrs. Lucinda Chickering , Waukon.
After attaining his manhood he followed the occupation of cook and later served as janitor of the Waukon public schools. While employed in the west he enlisted in Co A, First Montana volunteers and served in the Philippine insurrection in 1898-’99.
Deceased was fraternally connected with the order of Odd Fellows and Spanish American War veterans.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at two o’clock at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Robert Davis, followed by a military burial in Oakland cemetery.

Waukon, Ia. - A military funeral was held here Thursday afternoon for M. Scott Jones, Spanish-American War veteran, whose death occurred at the family home Tuesday morning. The last rites were held at the M.E. Church with the Rev. Robert Davies, pastor, officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with members of the Spanish-American War veterans and the local Legion post attending in a body.
Casketbearers were the following Spanish-American War veterans: Roy Pratt, Nicholas and John Colsch, Albert Hagen, John McCourity and Claude Dean.
