Norma P. Johnson, 81, of Waukon, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial will be held in Old West Paint Creek Cemetery wi, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. Norma Paulina Halvorson was born July 4, 1921, on a farm in the Round Prairie area of rural Waukon. Her parents were Hans and Hannah (Leiran) Halvorson. She was baptized at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. She attended the rural "Hanson School". On October 3, 1939, she married Earl Johnson in Decorah. During World War II, Norma and Earl lived in Baraboo, Wis. Norma worked as a nurses aid for several years at Veterans Memorial Hospital and later at the Allamakee County Home where she retired from in the early 1980's. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its women's groups and its ladies circles. Norma enjoyed taking care of her home and her houseplants and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed listening to country music, doing embroidery work, and shopping at JCPenney's. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Gary) Jackson of Waukon and Audrey (Leland) Reeder of Auampo, Calif.; two sons, Steven (Debra) Johnson of Charles City, and Kenneth (Donna) Johnson of Newhall, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Robert of Waterloo; and a brother, Orrin Halvorson of Crookston, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; a grandson, Scott Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Alycia, and a great-grandson; two sisters, Edna Lippe and Martha Sorum; and five brothers, Marcus, Herbert, Victory, Paul, and Tennis. Casketbearers were Lonna Newman, Joe Robert, Robert Lippe, Bill Halvorson, Herbert Halvorson Jr., and Wayne Johnson.
