Arthur Hagen, whose serious illness we mentioned in last week’s issue, failed to combat the serious diseases which seemed to have gained a strong hold upon him and he passed away at his home on Round Prairie about five thirty Friday morning.
A short while ago while operating a threshing machine he was thrown from the drive wheel to the ground but paid very little attention to his injuries for a couple of days when pain developed and when he sought a doctor’s attention it was discovered he was suffering with pneumonia which ran a course of several days when pleurisy and erysipelas developed and despite all that disease gained the mastery.
Deceased was born in Makee township Nov 21, 1891 and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Holver Hagen, residents of Round Prairie.
Here it was the young man grew to manhood and married Miss Edna Christianson(Christenesen) of the same locality about four years ago, to them was born one child which passed away soon after birth.
Their short married life was a happy one and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to the young wife, parents, brothers and sisters of the deceased who are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband, son and brother.
Besides his wife and parents the deceased is survived by three brothers and six sisters, namely: Clarence of Waterville, Glen on the home farm, Eddie of Iowa City, Mrs Carl Odegaard of Round Prairie, Mrs A.E. Cook of Shenadoah, Iowa, Mrs. Lee Buck of Des Moines, Mrs. Edna Kelsey residing in South Dakota, Mrs Hulda Brindle of New Jersey, and Delia who was recently married and lives in Des Moines. His was the first death in the family of ten children.
The funeral Monday afternoon at St. John’s Lutheran church was one of the largest held there for some time, many people not being able to gain admittance. Rev Rasmussen preached a very appropriate funeral sermon and offered words of comfort to the bereaved ones. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
The remains were intered in Oakland cemetery.
