A Memorial Service for Lorna Marie Ruckdaschel, age 58, of San Diego, California, was held in San Diego, California on November 12, 2011 at the Tierrasanta Lutheran Church. A celebration of Lorna's life will be scheduled at a later date in Wichita, Kansas. Lorna was anactive member of Reformation Lutheran Church in wichita, Kansas and recently became a member of Tierrasanta Lutheran Church in San Diego.

Lorna Marie, daughter of Lorenz and Hazel (Paulsen) Pape was born August 20, 1953 in Postville, Iowa. Lorna was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. She was raised in the area and graduated from the Postville Community High School
in 1971. Lorna was united in marriage on July 29, 1972 to Ricky Ruckdaschel at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. They moved to San Diego, California while Rick completed his tour of duty with the Navy. During their life together they lived in Waterloo, Iowa and Wichita, Kansas. They were the parents of two children. Lorna loved her family and was heavily involved in their activities throughout the years. Her home was always the base for kids to hang out. If kids ever needed help or someplace to stay, they went to MaMa Ruck. Gardening and the love for animals were other passions of Lorna's. When she became ill, she made it very clear that her dogs, Chance and Chuck, would always be with her. After her husband, Rick, passed away, she threw herself into gardening and had the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood. Lorna recently moved to San Diego, California to be closer to family and enjoyed many visits with her grandchildren which always brought a smile to her face. Family and friends will always remember Lorna for her positive attitude and infectious laugh.

Lorna Marie Ruckdaschel passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rick on May 31, 2008, and her brother, Lorenz "Buddy" Pape, Jr.

Lorna is survived by her daughter, Erin Ruckdaschel of Wichita, Kansas, her son Eric (Keegan) Ruckdaschel and 3 grandchildren, Charlie Rose Ruckdaschel, Ella Grace Ruckdaschel, and Theodore "Teddy" John Ruckdaschel, all of Encinitas, California; a sister, Linda (Denny) Baldwin of San Diego, California; a sister-in-law, Tonya (Duane) Millard of Edgewood, Iowa; 2 nephews, Kenny Valley, Nick Valley, and Rhea Cano, in addition to many other relatives and special friends.
