Funeral services for Francis "Frank" Plein, age 80, of Waukon, Iowa were held Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon with Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa. Casket bearers were his grandsons and the honorary casket bearers were the remaining grandchildren. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family with the arrangements.

Francis "Frank" Plein, son of Peter and Katherine (Byrnes) Plein, was born November 19, 1921 in Allamakee County. He was a lifelong resident of Allamakee County and a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. He graduated from Waukon High School and also served in the U.S. Air Forces with a tour of duty in the Pacific theater and New Guinea before settling in as a farmer back in his native Allamakee County, Iowa.

Francis "Frank" Plein died Friday, March 15, 2002 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Patrick Plein and Michael "Mike" Plein, two sisters, Mary Plein and Helen Drangstviedt and two brothers, William "Bill" Plein and Edward Plein.

Francis is survived by his wife, Helen * her maiden name was not listed in the obituary or their marriage date * of Waukon, Iowa; 4 sons, Mark (Sherry) Plein of Independence, Iowa, Bill Plein of Mediapolis, Iowa, Tom (Tami) Plein of Burlington, Iowa, and Rob Plein of Waukon, Iowa; 7 daughters, LuAnn (Mike) Kane of Janesville, Wisconsin, Connie Schneden of Waukon, Iowa, Mary (Patrick) Murphy of Williamsville, Maryland, Julie (Steve) Benney of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Sheila (Mark) Pladsen of Waukon, Iowa, Margaret "Muggs" Palmer of Tempe, Arizona, and Kathie Plein of Waukon, Iowa; 17 grandchildren Matt Kane, Shawn Kane, Travis Schneden, Corey Schneden, Jami Schneden, Megan Plein, Kelly Plein, Aaron Plein, Adam Plein, Whitney Plein, Brice Plein, Brett Palmer, Brock Palmer, Alison Palmer, August "Gus" Pladsen, Ben Murphy, and Joe Murphy.
