Funeral services for Leonard Ambrose Mellick, age 80, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with arrangements by Martin Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Chris Umbdenstock, Shawn Ewing, Danny Nierling, Donald Nierling, Lyle Mahoney, and Jim Jenks.

Leonard Ambrose Mellick, son of Mike and Julia (Duffy) Mellick, was born July 29, 1918 on their West Ridge farm in Allamakee County, Iowa. He attended rural schools. On November 22, 1948 he married Norma Muchow at the rectory of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. Leonard worked as a truck driver for Burg Implement and John Deere Implement, as well as Cooney construction, all in Waukon. He also farmed. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Leonard Ambrose Mellick died Sunday, March 21, 1999 at Northgate Care Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Norma, who died October 2, 1997, two daughters, Bonnie Mellick and Shirley Umbdenstock, one son, Ronnie Mellick; three sisters, Margaret Howes, Rita Nierling, and Mary Ryan; and two brothers, Donald Mellick and Frank Mellick.

Leonard is survived by his daughter, Melinda Ewing of Lansing, a son, Lennie (Sherry) Mellick of New Albin, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Pearl Weber and Rosella Nierling of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Loretta Collins, Regina Mahoney, and Marcella (Milbourn) Johnson, all of Waukon, Iowa and a brother Leo Mellick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
