Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Clarence Marcus Storla, age 86, were held Wednesday, December 3 at 2 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Gary Catterson officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery with Schutte Funeral service in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Kenneth Wendel, Philip Storla, DeWayne Storla, Curtis Storla, Rudolph Hesla, and Dale Kuhse.
Clarence Marcus Storla, son of Ole and Julia (Paulson) Storla, was born January 24, 1911 in Paint Creek Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He attended Storla School through the eighth grade and then high school at the Waterville Consolidated School. As a young man, he worked for the Paint Creek Farmers Telephone Company and Miller Construction in Waukon, Iowa, erecting power lines for the REC. He also worked in other parts of Iowa and Nebraska as a lineman. On November 12, 1941, Clarence and Julia Sullivan were married in Calmar, Iowa. They lived in Postville, Iowa. Julia died in 1974. On April 16, 1977, Clarence married Madonna (Desmond) Kellar. Madonna passed away on September 27, 1997.
Clarence began his career with the REC in 1946, eventually becoming construction superintendent and also serving as plant superintendent for a short time, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Community Presbyterian Church, Brotherly Love Lodge 204, serving as a worshipful master, and Postville Senior Citizens, serving as president for many years.
Clarence Marcus Storla died Monday, December 1, 1997 in the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Olvin Storla; twin sisters, Thora Johnson, and Sophia Gulrud, and sisters, Pauline Johnson and Helen Storla.
Clarence is survived by a son, Richard (Patsy) Storla of Atlanta, Georgia; a daughter, Janet (Steve) Blom of Janesville, Wisconsin; a step-daughter, Rose Kellar (Henry) Meester of Fairmont, Minnesota, and a step-son, Dennis Kellar of Ocheyedan, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 14 step-great grandchildren; a brother, Ove (Mildred) Storla of Dubuque, Iowa, and a sister, Olga Wendel of Postville, Iowa.
