LIFE SKETCH OF MRS CHARITY SCHMIDT
1844-1926
Mrs. Charity Schmidt, widow of the late Frank Schmidt passed away in death at her home in Monona on Saturday March 26th, 1926. She was born in Pennsylvania on Jan.8th 1844, and came to this part of Iowa when a young woman. Soon after arriving in Iowa she was united in marriage to Nicholas Kascel, and established their home on a farm in Allamakee County, on Lansing Ridge.
To this couple were born five children, Nicholas Junior being the only one living. Her husband died about 32 years ago. On January 20, 1909 she was united in marriage to Frank Schmidt, who passed away last August.
She leaves besides her son, two grand-children and several nephews and nieces.
Since 1909 she and her husband lived in Monona. For the last few months she has made her home with her son on his farm near Volney. Throughout her life she attended the Methodist Church. Thus comes to an close another long life and the end of another pioneering trail in these portions of Iowa. Let us never fail to be thankful for the sacrifices and work of these who did so much to make this region so rich and attractive.
Funeral services were held in the Monona Methodist Church on March 30, at 10:30. The body was then taken by train to Lansing to be laid by the side of other member of her family.
Charlotte/Charity Jenkins bn 15 Jan 1843 to Wilson and Rachel (Brooks) Jenkins. Charity would have been born just accrossed the line in Monongalia, VA. Married N. Kascel 20 Aug 1865.
