Slitor, age 57, of Waukon, Iowa were held at 1:00 p.m. on May 17 at the Martin Brothers Funeral Chapel with Rev. William J. Tjaden officiating. Pallbearers were Eaton Cote, Paul Cote, John Kepler, Elmer Kewley, W. C. Kiesau, and Dale Robey. Interment was at the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa.
Gwendolyn Irene Kelly, daughter of Earl Reed and Nora (Pettit) Kelly, was born July 10, 1917 at Waukon, Iowa. She was a graduate of Waukon High School, Waukon Junior College, and the Iowa University School of Nursing, earning her R.N. Degree. On January 1, 1938 Gwen was united in Holy Marriage to Truman G. Slitor at Iowa City, Iowa. They became the parents of 3 children. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the V.O.V. Study Club in Waukon, Iowa. She became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, Iowa on June 29, 1930 through the Sacred Rite of Confirmation. She loved her church and its Mission. She served the church as Deacon, as Elder, as Clerk of Session, and as a faithful member of her Guilds and Women's Association.
Gwendolyn Irene Slitor became ill several months ago and suffered much intense pain until God called her to her Eternal Heavenly Home on May 15, 1975 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Reed Kelly, who died in 1944.
Gwen is survived by her husband, Truman; her mother, Nora Kelly of Waukon, Iowa; 2 sons, Truman Wentworth Slitor of Marquette, Michigan, and James Lewis Slitor of Delray Beach, Florida, and a daughter, Susan Betsy Ross Slitor, presently a student at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa; 2 grandchildren Michelle Marie Slitor and Sandra Renee Slitor; and 1 sister, Lorraine (George) Staub of Franklinton, Louisiana.
