Funeral services for Joy Powell, age 71, were held Friday, May 3 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The Rev. LaVonne Kaasa officiated at the 2 p.m. services with burial in North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Bruce Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were her grandsons, Brent Powell, Shane Powell, Steve Powell, Troy Powell, and grandsons-in-law, Steve Olson and Vern Smith.

Ethel Joy, daughter of Ray and Hazel (Henderson) Robey, was born July 5, 1919 on the Robey farm on the Big Foot Road in Paint Creek Township in Allamakee County, Iowa. She attended school at Waterville, Iowa and graduated from Waukon High School. She attended Luther College for two years and on January 11, 1941, she married Harvey E. Powell at the First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, Iowa. They lived in the Oakland, California area for two years and Sheffield, Iowa for several years before moving to Fort Dodge where they lived for the last 40 years.

Ethel Joy Powell died Tuesday, April 30, 1991 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Coila Woodmansee, and a great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey; her 4 sons, Charles Powell, David Powell, and Kevin Powell, all of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Kent Powell of Rialto, California; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Irma Olson and her brother, Dale Robey, both of Waukon, Iowa.
