Funeral services for Mary Mona O'Neil, age 77, were held at Immmaculate Conception Church, Wexford, in Allamakee County, Iowa with Father Louis Trzil, the Right Rev. Monsignor Cletus Hawes, and Father Donald Hawes officiating. Burke-Thronburg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers Keith Garin, Carl Mullarkey, George Delaney, Gerald Hawes, Jim Hawes, and Maury Mooney. Honorary bearers were Paul Gavin, Cyril Mooney, Cyril Hawes, and Mickey Madden.

Mary Mona O'Neil, daughter of Patrick Henry and Hanora Agnus (Crowe) O'Neil, was born July 12, 1919 near Wexford, in Allamakee County, Iowa. She attended the Wexford School and graduated from Lansing High School in 1937. She attended several colleges and earned a master's degree. Mary taught school in many area schools as well as East Dubuque, Illinois and many years in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She was a member of the Dominican Lay Ministry, the Foresters Catholic Daughters, and the Wexford Rosary Society. After retiring from teaching she lived in Dubuque, Iowa for many years before moving back to Prairie du Chien three years ago.

Mary died Friday, August 23, 1996 at the Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Patrick Hillary O'Neill.

She is survived by her 4 brothers, Thomas "Tom" O'Neill, Francis "Frank" O'Neill, both of Lansing, Iowa, Celestine O'Neill of Lowell, Indiana, and Steve O'Neill of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; 2 sisters-in-law, Eleanor O'Neill of Waukon, Iowa and Phyllis O'Neill of Lowell, Indiana.
