Funeral services for Wayne L. McCracken, age 83, of Nevada, Iowa, formerly of McGregor, Iowa, were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25 at the First Lutheran Church in McGregor, Iowa. Reverend Bruce Hanson officiated with burial in the church cemetery.

Wayne L. McCracken was born March 15, 1918 in Waukon, Iowa to Milton H. and Fannie Rachel (McShane) McCracken. He grew up on a farm in Franklin Township in Allamakee County and attended school in the Allamakee County area. He helped farm with his parents. He was a contract driver for Luana Creamery and also did private trucking for seven years. On February 25, 1946 he married Freda M. Dickson in Waukon, Iowa. He was a shipping clerk for Decorated Metal in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin for 17 years. Later he was employed at McGregor Lumber Company until his retirement. He also ran the Standard Oil Station on their property.

Wayne L. McCracken died Tuesday, August 21, 2001 in Ames, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, William Frank Gecho.

He is survived by his wife, Freda of Nevada, Iowa; 3 daughters, Waneta (Ben) Buck of Rochester, Minnesota, Yvonne (James) Brown of Guttenberg, Iowa, Phyllis (William) Gecho of Fremont, Iowa; a son, Carroll (Laurie) McCracken of Nevada, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Christina Gecho, Mary Ellen Gecho, Sean McCracken, Jennifer McCracken, a great-grandchild, Cheyenne; and a sister, Edna Flage of Waukon, Iowa.
