Funeral services for Hazel Marie Schlitter, age 82, were held Thursday, September 17 at the Forest Mills United Methodist Church in rural Postville, Iowa. Rev. Steve Campbell and Rev. Todd Schlitter conducted the 10:30 a.m. services. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery with arrangements by Martin Funeral Home of Waukon, Iowa handling the arrangements. Casket bearers were her 9 grandchildren; Rev. Todd Schlitter, Leigh Van Doornik, Kent Schlitter, Chad Johnson, Rob Schlitter, Kirk Schlitter, Chris Johnson, Andy Schlitter, and Casey Johnson.

Hazel Marie, daughter of Hiram and Maude (Barr) Robinson, was born October 12, 1915 in Ossian, Iowa. Hazel's mother died in childbirth and Hazel was raised by her grandparents, Frank and Emilie Jane (Fish) Barr. Her uncles and aunts considered Hazel their "little sister" and she thought of them as brothers and sisters. Hazel attended rural elementary schools and Luana High School. In the 1970's she received her GED diploma as an adult. On April 18, 1934 Hazel married Willis Schlitter in Waukon, Iowa. They farmed for many years before moving to Waukon in 1970. She worked as a housekeeper at the Good Samaritan Center for several years. Hazel was a member of the Forest Mills United Methodist Church and its Ladies Aid. She was also a member of a Bible Study Group.

Hazel Marie Schlitter died Monday, September 14, 1998 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, her husband, Willis, who died June 27, 1985, six brothers, and seven sisters.

Hazel is survived by 2 sons, Richard "Dick" (Dorothy) Schlitter of Onawa, Iowa, Daniel "Danny" (Sue) Schlitter of Waukon, Iowa and 1 daughter, Jane (Obert) Johnson of Decorah, Iowa; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Elmer "Tugs" (Margaret "Babe") Robinson of Dubuque, Iowa, and a sister, Eunice Taylor of Rockford, Illinois; 3 sisters-in-law and 1 brother-in-law.

NOTE: The children of Frank and Emilie (Fish) Barr were 5 sons: Fred Barr, Harry Clifford Barr, Albert "Bert" Barr, Guy Barr, and Chester Raymond "Chet" Barr, Sr. and 6 daughters, Maude (Hazel's mother), Artie Ethel(Mrs. Fritz Berg), Grace (Mrs. Albert Evans), Minnie (Mrs. Veranus Ames, Eunice (Mrs. Donald Taylor) and Mae Edwards.

Grace (Robinson) Spilde was born September 28, 1914 and she was raised by her Aunt Artie Ethel and Fritz Berg after her mother died. Grace died in California on March 30, 1995
