Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Alice Bell Lawson, age 86, of Waukon, Iowa were held Wednesday, February 7 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Gary Moose, Lyle Moose, Randy Lawson, David Lawson, Hartley Enyart, Jr. and David Enyart.
Alice Bell, daughter of Joseph and Lillian "Lily" (Truesdal) Tindell, was born March 3, 1903 in Millville, Iowa. She attended rural Clayton County Schools near Millville. On April 25, 1920 she married Leonard Leo Lawson in Fayette, Iowa. They farmed in Allamakee County, Iowa, all their married life. Leonard died December 18, 1964. She had lived in Waukon since 1968. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its women's groups. She was a Gold Star Mother in the VFW Auxiliary.
Alice Bell Lawson died Sunday, February 4, 1990 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. In addition to her parents and her husband, Leonard, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Lawson who was killed in New Guinea during World War II; 2 grandsons, 2 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Norman "Normie" Tindell, Howard Tindell, Glen Tindell, and Harry Tindell, and 6 sisters, Jenny Roloff, Effie Tompkins, Edith Block, Hazel Rigel, Evelyn Phillips, and Lorena Sannes.
Alice Lawson is survived by a son, Roland Lawson and 2 daughters, Gertrude (Harmon) Hamm and Beulah (Hartley) Enyart, all of Waukon, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
