Funeral services for Ella Melvina Meier, age 78, of Waukon, Iowa were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 2 at Zalmona Presbyterian Church, rural Waukon, Iowa with Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Jess Fish, Dennis Winters, Brad Winters, Ron Winters, David Winters, Virgil Duvel, Robert Wiest, and Larry Snitker.

Ella Melvina, daughter of Otto and Mabel (Sando) Sanderson, was born August 24, 1920 on their rural Waterville, Iowa farm. She attended rural Waterville area schools. On November 9, 1939 she married Rueben Meier at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed in rural Waukon for many years. Ella worked for a time as a housekeeper, both in private homes and at the Cliff House Motel in Decorah, Iowa. She was a member of Zalmona Prebyterian Church.

Following a lengthy illness, Ella died Saturday February 27, 1999 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rueben, a grandson, a brother Oswald Sanderson, and 2 sisters, Stella Wiest and Mildred Webster.

Surviving are 1 daughter, Joyce (Delbert) Fish; 1 son, Duane Meier; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; 2 sisters, Bernice (Milton) Duvel and Marie Winters, all of Waukon, Iowa.
