Roland E. Swenson, formerly of this area, passed away at his home in Venice, Florida on December 5, 1991. Mr. Swenson was the son of Arthur and Nina (Harris) Swenson of Postville, Iowa in Allamakee County, Iowa. He graduated from the Postville High School in 1923. Following graduation he spent a short time in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He then moved to Chicago, Illinois where he took advantage of educational opportunities offered in evening schools and Northwestern University School of Commerce.

In 1926 he became associated with the Kemper Group of National Insurance Companies headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Swenson advanced rapidly within the organization and at the time of his retirement was treasurer of the Principal Kemper Companies and was chief accounting officer of these companies. He was a member of The Society of Insurance Accountants and throughout his career was active in other organizations pertaining to insurance.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Doris Swenson, two brothers, Hall Swenson and George Swenson.

He is survived by his wife, Melba of Venice, Florida; a daughter, Sandra (Edward) Gutmann of Park Ridge, Illinois; 3 grandchildren, Scott Guttmann, Stacy Guttmann, and Mark
Guttman, also of Park Ridge, Illinois; and a sister, Florence Ruckdaschel of Postville, Iowa.
