Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 19 for Harpers Ferry, Iowa resident John A. Hawes, age 53, who died Sunday December 17, 1989 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Father Duane Raftis conducted the services at Immaculate Conception Church, Wexford. Burial was in the Wexford Cemetery with Burke-Thornburg Funeral home of Lansing, Iowa in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Cyril Platten, John Wolfe, George Delaney, Clair Wagner, Ralph Mettille, Maury Mooney, and Gerald Hawes.

John was born June 30, 1926 in Harpers Ferry, Iowa to Edward and Lila (Guider) Hawes. On August 19, 1961 he married G. Jane Carroll. They farmed in rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Surviving are his wife, 3 sons, Mike Hawes of Fairfield, Ohio, Brian Hawes of Iowa City, Iowa, and Tom Hawes at home; 2 daughters, Maureen Bigelow of Rochester, Minnesota and Brenda Hawes of Bloomington, Wisconsin; and 2 brothers, Raymond Hawes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Jim Hawes of Harpers Ferry, Iowa.
